Blue scores a goal in the first annual Turf War
2009 Middle School Field Hockey- 7th and 8th grade
Welcome to the 2009 Fall Field Hockey season. Hopefully you are enjoying the remainder of your summer vacation and are ready to get started with another great season of Andover Youth Services field hockey. Whether this is your first year or your fifth, the 2009 season proves to be fun and educational. Below please find some general details about the upcoming season and more specific information regarding your grade.
Schedules
Necessary Equipment
Each player will need to have field hockey/lacrosse goggles, a field hockey stick, field hockey shin guards and a mouth guard. Players will not be allowed to practice or play games without ALL necessary equipment. Players should also come to games and practices with weather appropriate clothing, water and a snack. Equipment can be purchased at the Andover Hockey Shop, Play it Again Sports and Thunder, as well as Sports Authority and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Uniforms
Each player will receive a uniform from the Youth Services. Uniforms will be handed out prior to the first game and will need to be returned to the Youth Services at the season’s end. The 7th and 8th grade team uniform is made up of a color specific jersey and a navy blue skirt. We will do our best to provide each girl with the most appropriate sizes. If you played last year and still have a uniform, please email me as soon as possible.
Carpools
As you know, the 7th and 8th teams participate in the NEC/CAL as Andover Blue and Andover Gold. You will be notified, after the first week of practice, which team your daughter will play for. We do our best to accommodate carpooling by keeping girls from each school together, but we have 2 teams and 3 schools so it is not possible to completely split them. Our biggest concern in deciding teams is making sure that we have two balanced teams to play in the league. This means that girls may not necessarily be with classmates or existing friends. This is not something that can be changed or accommodating. The good thing is that someone from your school will be on your team and you should be able to work out transportation.
